New to Genealogy?

4. Documenting Your Findings

While the documentation may appear later section in this guide, it does not mean that you should leave documenting your work until the end of your research. You should make notes notes throughout your research and keep your documentation organised. The more information you collect, the greater the need for a methodical approach.

As your collection of known relatives grows, you will find your family tree becomes more complex and consequently more difficult to draw. Sooner or later, you are likely to want to use a computer based genealogy package such as Ancestral Forest to record and help organise your data.

An inevitable question you ask youself at some point is who am I researching this for? You may be simply interested out of personal curiosity. It is more likely you want to share your findings either with your own descendants or your whole family.

Given the modern world's tendency for families to be spread far and wide, you can use the internet to help involve whoever you wish.
